I Do Mean To Make Light Of It All

My best friend is sick. Has been for a while now, and by the looks of things, she will be for a while longer. It is what it is, and no one could handle it better. But I worry, and even more, I'm angry. Angry that she doesn't feel better, angry that little seems to be helping, and angry that I can't fix it. But, I've been trying to grow into her illness as she has, and it seems that humor is the best way I know how.

We have a standing Tuesday night walking date at the gym, and last night, she had to cancel. "I can't make it tonight," she said. "I have a sigmoidoscopy tomorrow and I have to give myself an enema."

What I was thinking was, "Could anything fucking suck more?" What I said was, "Don't worry about it. If I had a nickel for every time someone has had to cancel plans to perform a self enema . . . well, just give me a call tomorrow and let me know how it all comes out."

Maybe hearing her laugh is really about making me feel better, but I've decided that's okay. It's what I have to give.

And I LOVE to laugh at it! Especially when it's one of your witty comments. Seriously- you're so funny, no one can stay down around you. I wish I could match it!
LOVE YOU!!!!!!

Oh thank goodness for you jdoc, on so many levels. I'm angry too. It's a good thing JM loves her physician cuz I suddenly hate them all. But JM is an inspiration to us all to live life to the fullest, even if you have to perform self enemas on occasion.

jdoc,
They say laughter is the best medicine and I think you're exactly what the doctor ordered! You have such a great sense of humor and you make me laugh everyday!

bdoc - thanks for the encouragement, but something tells me if I were living life to the fullest, I wouldn't have spent the last two weekends at work. Something to think about....

Humor gets us through it all. "Live. Laugh. Lie. Love the reeling midnight through ..."
