I'm a Mac

I need a new computer for graduate school. My Mac, which I adore like one of the family, has had a few problems over the years. Its logic board has gone out twice, and just last spring the entire hard drive died. During that last fiasco, I lost all of my course work for my master's degree, and I just can't bear the thought of the same happening with my Ph.D research. It's time for a new machine, we can all agree.

I've been resisting this day, however, because I've realized that the smart choice for this time in my life is the PC, not my beloved, boyishly cute, sweatshirt and Keds sporting Mac. Not only does the PC carry the software that I'll need for calculating and storing statistical research, but it also comes in at around $500 cheaper than the Mac.

I want you all to know that while this may be the smart choice, it is not my heart choice. And I will refuse, for quite some time, to identify myself as the suit wearing, spyware buying, AOL using PC owner. Until I'm really strapped for cash or am willing to recognize the inconvenience of it all, I'm going to own both a new PC and this worn and tattered iBook. But I'll only clutch one of them close to my chest each night as I fall asleep.

I, too, heart Macs. I didn't like them until photo school when I found out how much more you can do (photo speaking) on a Mac than a PC, yet I own a PC. I can't wait for the day I can finally buy a Mac.

It's funny, but I actually live in an AntiMac Household.
It's a "build your own" household, complete with a computer graveyard in the corner (for extra parts.)
Hypster funk looking mac is no longer cool -- just the empowerment from a device that one has built and can be modified and cured with out the express permission of Apple.
This is not me, it's my sweetie.
But, I am a gamer. No mac's for me.

good point, key west. I'm just not much of a do-it-yourselfer. Who knows. Maybe I'll make the shift more seemlessly than I think.

Tough choice! I too, heart my Mac and couldn't imagine owning anything else. Goodluck!

I've never been fond of any type of computer, frankly. They all suck. They break down, they cost a lot of money and they go "out of style" two seconds after you walk out the door with the newest and most advanced model. Go with the most useful and practical and you probably won't notice the differenc when it's doing what you need it to do ...

But Macs do look better than PC's, I'll give them that ;-)
